The Department of Medical History and Bioethics dates back to 1950, when the University of Wisconsin Medical School created a Department of the History of Medicine, the country’s second department of its kind. The Program in Medical Ethics has been an integral part of the department since its founding in 1973 and has continued to flourish within the department as the field of study in Bioethics.
Housed within the School of Medicine Public Health, and affiliated with departments in the Colleges of Letters and Sciences, our faculty are subject matter experts, and active educators, teaching all levels of students: Undergraduates, Graduates, Medical Students, and Residents and Fellows. In addition, we have published books, written articles for journals, directed films, and other research activities in our respective fields.
We adhere to the Wisconsin Idea and provide service in various roles throughout the University. If you want to learn more about our Department, contact us here.
